Started in 1979 by two friends who found their way from Buffalo, NY to the warmer and sunnier Atlanta, Taco Mac has grown from those humble beginnings to over 25 locations across the Southeast. Taco Mac offers the most “Craft on Draft”” with over 100 taps of craft and local brews, casual American fare, like fresh never frozen buffalo wings, and 35+ HD TVs for watching all your favorite sports. It is a quiet neighborhood, tucked away like a well-kept secret, and one that welcomed Taco Mac as the neighborhood hangout. It didn’t take long to find the perfect spot, a quaint little taco shack on the corner of Virginia and North Highland Avenues – now known as Virginia-Highland. Now they just needed a location to get the ball rolling. All they had was a little cash and a great idea to bring a popular northern cuisine to the sunny South. Near Virginias two highest mountains, the park offers scenic views of alpine-like peaks, waterfalls, camping, a visitor center and miles of hiking trails. After touring the city and enjoying the weather they decided to stay. In addition to beer and wine, people can pair their pizza with one of the restaurant’s bottled cocktails, like a 50/50 martini, negroni, and old fashioned. The original Taco Mac, this location has been serving the Virginia Highland community since it all started back in 1979 when a couple of guys from Buffalo, NY made a pit stop in Atlanta on their way to Florida. The Fishmonger in Virginia Highland brings that experience to the A, delivering the freshness and quality of an expensive seafood restaurant with the casual quickness of a Captain D’s. Look for appetizers, like cheesy buns and sausage bread, a handful of Italian subs, and soft serve ice cream for dessert on the menu, too. Slice offerings change daily and cost between $3 and $6 a piece. This includes a grandma-style square pizza called the Noni, named for Streck’s grandmother.
